How Does Acupuncture Work?

They say that ‘Acupuncture is no longer alternative’. It has proven to be incredibly effective, and today we will look at how it works; both from an Ancient Chinese Medicine approach as well as a modern western medicine approach.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine we understand acupuncture as a way of balancing the flow of energy or life force - the QI. The Qi moves through systems on the body and the acupuncture points are on the systems. By inserting needles into the points we can balance the energy and help create the conditions for the body to heal itself.

Western Medicine Approach To Acupuncture

From a western medicine point of view the acupuncture points are places where we can stimulate nerves, muscles and connective tissue. This results in the body producing natural substances - anti inflammatories and pain relieving endorphins. Acupuncture can influence the nervous system, the cardiovascular system, the endocrine system and the immune system.

How Will I Feel After Facial Acupuncture?

There is no universal response to acupuncture - for some a feeling of relaxation, for others a temporary tiredness which can then lead to feeling energised usually the following day. Some people experience an improvement of symptoms right away and for others it can take a few sessions. Most people have a snooze during the treatment, and have a distinct feeling of balance and harmony afterwards - a 'feels good' experience.
